Varnish Deposits – Is it still a concern?

Varnish Deposits – Is it still a concern? Varnish Deposits – Is it still a concern?

Varnish and sludge have always been an ongoing issue that occurs within all combustion turbines, but it's important to understand that it could be avoided and so is its high-cost expenses, labor extra hours, and mechanical inconvenience.

Usually, bearings and valves, especially the servo valves, are the common surfaces where varnish would accumulate and start to form a sticky and sludgy environment which then causes failure and the turbine would not start unless done manually. Peaking turbines based in power plants that serve high demand energy conditions are the types of turbines with the highest chances to experience varnish problems due to the extreme heat conditions the lubricant would suffer during its cycle and time to settle. So, when contaminants and oxidized lubricant additives all start forming, your system will start heating up more and more until it reaches a point where it cannot start. This is set to be a challenge that continues if no varnish reduction plan is implemented in order to have turbines and systems with optimized efficiency and cost.

Now that we have shed some light on Varnish and how it affects combustion turbines, let's learn how this problem can easily be solved so it's never a problem on your list anymore. Introducing VARTECH Industrial System Cleaner (ISC):

VARTECH ISC is designed with triple-action varnish removal technology. When added to the in-service oil at its end-of-life, VARTECH ISC works quickly and effectively to help you restore equipment to peak performance for outstanding reliability and productivity. It’s quick, effective, and easy to use. VARTECH ISC cuts through hard varnish to remove it as micro-sized varnish particles capture varnish particles in a protective barrier to enable effective removal from the system without re-depositing on the equipment and provides compatibility with in-service oil for optimum operational flexibility and system performance during the cleaning cycle.
