How to keep your diesel engine coolant system in shape

How to keep your diesel engine coolant system in shape How to keep your diesel engine coolant system in shape

It is estimated that the failure of an engine coolant system is one of the key factors for engine downtime. The diesel engines today emit more heat than their predecessors, requiring better cooling mechanisms than ever before. They usually require a fully formulated extended life coolant. Coolants also play a key role in the system's maintenance. They have to face multiple battles with rust, acid, foams, debris etc. to maintain the optimum operating conditions of an engine. Since coolants may differ according to the job and requirement, they will need to be monitored frequently to ensure proper chemical balance.

No engine cooling system can escape maintenance. Every component degrades with time, including the coolant. Various elements, such as dilution with water, additives and the invasion of foreign particles entering the cooling system, can cause a chemical degeneration. Products can get mixed, making testing and servicing difficult.

A coolant system can perform fine only when it is properly maintained. Deteriorating cooling system can cause changes, causing disastrous results for an engine.

This is when Delo® XLI Corrosion Inhibitor-Concentrate, a water-based, low toxicity, environmentally friendly, nitrite free carboxylate inhibitor can make a difference. It offers corrosion protection for engine metals, including aluminum, iron, copper and solder alloys and its corrosion inhibitors contain a synergistic combination of mono and di-carboxylates that provide superior protection for up to 960,000 kilometers, 12,000 hours, 6 years in on-road and off-road engine applications and 32,000 hours or 6 years in stationary engines. It is highly recommended to be diluted to 5.5%-10% with good quality water before use and is compatible with glycol-based engine coolants; however, further dilution of the Delo XLI inhibitors by over 25% with other corrosion inhibitor technologies will reduce the effectiveness of these products. Its silicate and phosphate free formulation, and does not contribute to deposit buildup, as can be seen with phosphate and silicate containing coolants, which can help maintain heat transfer efficiency. Also, it has excellent toxicological and environmental aspects. Since Delo® XLI Corrosion Inhibitor – Concentrate is based on low toxicity inhibitors, these products are readily biodegradable. The extended service life characteristic of this product contributes to protecting the environment because of less frequent fluid disposal. It also comes highly recommended for many cooling systems not requiring nitrite and where freeze protection is not required.
